China's BYD Overtakes Tesla As World's Most Popular EV Maker; Elon Musk Learns a Lesson: Don't Laugh

BYD, the Chinese automaker that once had Elon Musk laugh at the notion that it could be a competitor during an interview with Bloomberg TV back in 2011, is now projected to surpass Tesla as the world’s largest producer of battery-electric vehicles.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is no longer laughing at Chinese rival BYD. Elon Musk admits BYD cars ‘are highly competitive these days’ after a 2011 clip shows him laughing at the rival now trouncing Tesla in China.
