Why are Nerds Trying to Escape?

LARPing and gaming are officially a bigger distraction than sports. Movies about all kinds of imaginary universes abound.AI and virtual and augmented reality are overtaking this one. Why? What is driving us away from ourselves, apart from one another? Why aren’t we able to really focus on our home?
