Akala is a British rapper, journalist, author, activist and poet from Kentish Town, London. He is known for his socially conscious and politically charged lyrics, as well as his diverse musical influences, ranging from hip hop, reggae, rock, classical and jazz. He has won several awards, including the MOBO Award for Best Hip Hop Act in 2006, and has been featured on the Powerlist of the 100 most influential Black British people in the UK. He is also the founder of the Hip-hop Shakespeare Company, a music theatre production company that explores the connections between Shakespeare and hip hop culture.
