The Syrian Foreign Ministry said today that Israel's repeated attacks on Syria and its threats to Lebanon and Arab countries show that its goal is to expand in the region.

The Foreign Ministry added, in a statement carried by the Syrian news agency "SANA", that the Israeli attacks on Syrian territory "reflect an inherent tendency among the Zionist leaders to pursue the approach of killing and destruction practiced relentlessly with the aim of killing more thousands of Palestinian people."

The Syrian Foreign Ministry warned the international community of the continued Israeli aggressions, saying: "Syria once again calls on the Security Council to assume its responsibilities in implementing what is stipulated in the Charter of the United Nations and international humanitarian law."

"It remains for this Council, especially for countries that protect Israeli aggression, to take a lesson from the experiences of peoples when they take decisions in defending their sovereignty, rights and the lives of their children."

The Syrian Defense Ministry said Israel launched an air attack from the direction of the Golan, targeting some points in the southern region.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Israeli missiles targeted the area of Damascus International Airport and a point within an air defense battalion in the southern countryside of Sweida province.
