The Smith family saw a man carrying a young child through the town of Praia da Luz on the night of Madeleine McCann's disappearance. On this website are their statements.

Although the man spotted by the Smiths was the prime suspect for a while, the very vague description led investigators to various dead ends. In 2013, two e-fits were depicting the suspect were released, though they were produced only a year after the smith sighting by private investigators. The reason for this is thought to be that the efits bear a likeness to Gerry McCann.

As a result of the release of these e-fits, investigators have recieved several calls with possible new information, but no main new leads.
