Dr Rik Celie. His passion from childhood: to help the poorest of the poor. Doctors on Mission.

When he was 11 or 12, Rik heard of Dr Schweitzer and Dr Livingstone. He immediately knew: that's what he wanted to do with his life - to become a doctor so he could help the poorest of the poor. And that's what he has done - now for 33 years with his mission in Bolivia. He' also went to Haiti with the huge earthquake, going further inland where no other doctor went. He was also in Pakistan, very dangerous, where a medical colleague was murdered by the Taliban. His hope is to be able to continue until he's 100. Now there are some local doctors in Bolivia, and some small local clinics. Still every day worldwide 30,000 children die from just 5 very preventable diseases. What Rik Celie and his team need most to be able to continue their work: donations, funds, money - for medical supplies, for repairs to their 35-year-old vehicle, and for living expenses.
