The Institute for the Study of War tries to cope with another defeat for Ukraine in Marinka by saying it would not offer much advantage to the Russians and that the Russians took heavy losses for a small city. This is directly contradicted by President Putin in a meeting with Defence Minister Shoigu who claimed that not only will this victory push the Ukrainians further back from Donetsk but it will allow for further Russian advancements in the Donbas. Zaluzhny announced that Marinka is no longer under Ukrainian control and hints at more retreats particularly in Avdiivka if more weapons and ammo isn’t provided. Russians are also advancing around Bakhmut toward the direction of Chasiv Yar. Chasiv Yar however, has three villages in front it that form a defensive barrier.
