Bored by a news programme, twelve-year-old Nils leaves the TV couch.
In his room, still deep in thought, he wonders why people keep going to war and he leafs through a history encyclopaedia in his vague hope of finding an answer.

Suddenly the boy finds himself in a medieval battle over a palisade fortress.
palisade fortress. He manages to escape at the last second and runs into his friend Lenny.

Why does Nils encounter war situations that previously preoccupied him?
What is fantasy? What is reality? What is he afraid of?

Pursued by attacking flying objects and troops of combat robots, the friends realise that their lives are in danger and begin to flee from an unknown force.

Sensing his boy's plight, Nils' relative sets off on a desperate search.

Will he be able to save his Nils and his friend or will the unthinkable happen?
