A freighter that ran aground in the Upper Peninsula brought shipping through the soo locks to a halt over Christmas weekend.

While maneuvering through a very thin area of the St. Mary’s River known as the Rock Cut near Barbeau, through dense fog, The Capt. Henry Jackman Bulk Carrier lost power around 4pm on December 23rd, where they laid anchor and waited.

The St. Mary’s River was then closed to traffic due to the stopped ship, and the dense fog in the area.

Late Christmas afternoon, shipping was once again moving through the Soo Locks.
