One woman died and two people were taken to hospital on November 14 after a cruise ship sank near the Blue Lagoon Island in the Bahamas. Passenger Sarah Plourde told Storyful of the “traumatic” experience, much of which she was able to capture on video. She said the ferry capsized on its way to the island after encountering rough water, which caused it to tip within a couple of minutes. “The first floor filled with water and we had to climb to the side and climb out the window,” she said. “The captain wouldn’t turn the engines off so we were scared to swim out the back due to the propeller.” The Nassau Guardian cited police as saying the person who died was a Colorado woman. The Maritime Executive said she was 75 years old. A statement was issued by Blue Lagoon Island, saying: “The Royal Bahamas Defense Force, Blue Lagoon, and other vessels all assisted in getting people to shore and we are grateful for their help.” They said that local authorities, the ship company, and the US Embassy were notified about the incident.
