In July 1518, a woman named Frau Troffea began dancing in the streets of Strasbourg. Over the next month, the number of participants in this spontaneous and uncontrollable dance increased, reaching hundreds. The affected individuals danced for hours, days, and even weeks without rest. Reports from the time describe people collapsing from exhaustion, suffering injuries, and in some cases, dying from heart attacks, strokes, or sheer physical exertion.
