In this video, we learn about the Metwally Gate, one of the gates of Old Cairo. The gate is located in the Al-Azhar district, and is the southwestern gate of the city. It was built during the Fatimid reign of Al-Mu'izz Lidin Allah in the 10th century AD.

The gate consists of two huge towers, separated by a corridor. The two towers are about 25 meters high and are built of limestone. The two towers feature beautiful Islamic decorations, such as muqarnas and geometric decorations.

Inside, we find a narrow passage leading into the city. This pass was the city's main checkpoint, where taxes were collected from merchants and immigrants.
