Wario World Playthrough (Progressive Scan Mode) - Part 1

This is part 1 of my 100% playthrough of Wario World for the GameCube. I'm playing the game in progressive scan mode using an actual GameCube (not the Wii).

I've been a fan of the Wario series since it debuted as Super Mario Land 3 on the Game Boy. However, once the series started morphing into more of a puzzle platformer (Wario Land II) instead of an action platformer (Wario Land, Wario Land Virtual Boy), I began to lose interest and stopped buying the games.

Sometime after the GameCube was released Nintendo showed off Wario's first 3D game, which was called Wario World. I had seen a bunch of other series go 3D, so I was interested to see how this would turn out.

I got Wario World along with Mario Kart Double Dash for Christmas of 2003 and proceeded to beat the game in probably a day or two. Although the game is decent, it's really, really short. As a result, there isn't much replay value, and I only tend to beat the game every few years or so, similar to Luigi's Mansion. However, the music is pretty good and Wario's catchphrases are hilarious.

The game has a fixed-camera 3D style similar to Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario 3D World. It also seems to take some inspiration from Super Mario Sunshine by having 3D obstacle courses to complete inside of levels. These are similar to the no-waterpack levels from Sunshine. I really like those parts.

Unlike Mario Sunshine, this game actually runs at 60 fps, which makes for really smooth gameplay. The graphics are fairly impressive too.

In this first part I completed all the levels in Excitement Central.

These stages were not completed back-to-back in a single session. I edited together the successful runs for a single video.

Greenhorn Forest - 2:35
Greenhorn Ruins - 17:20
DinoMighty's Showdown - 34:49

Recorded with the Hauppauge HD PVR and the GameCube's component cables at 60 frames per second.
