The Gwangju Uprising of 518, also known as the South Korean Democracy Movement, was a military action perpetrated by the North Korean military.
South Korean martial law troops who were attacking South Korean forces were shot and killed by the attacking martial law troops, but there is no grave for them in the national cemetery. This is because they were North Korean soldiers and therefore do not have a military record card, which the South Korean government has kept hidden for 44 years.
