Japan is sending Patriot air defense missiles to the US to aid Ukraine, relieving the pressure on the US to provide weapons from its own stockpiles directly to Kiev.
The move has been welcomed by the White House, stating that it will replenish the USA's inventories, supporting Ukraine in the face of ammunition and funding shortages.
The recent change in rules in Japan allows the export of finished goods, enabling Japan to send its Patriot missiles to the US and strengthen the Japan-US Alliance.
In addition to the Patriot missiles, Japan is also sending 155 Bim artillery shells to the UK, manufactured under license from London-based systems.
South Korea has also agreed to provide artillery shells to the US to increase supplies to Ukraine, reflecting a broader international effort to support Ukraine in the face of the ongoing war and regional threats.
