After several months of discussions, the new measures agreed upon between the G7 and EU countries will gradually take effect on January 1. The first to be affected will be diamonds, the largest exporter of which in the world is Russia, which accounts for 30 percent of total production. But tracking diamonds is not easy, according to Koen Vandenbempt from the Department of Business and Economics at the University of Antwerp. "It will be a blockchain system where the transformation of the diamond will be fully recorded and you can basically track what happens to the diamonds," he told Euronews.
