Shab-e Yalda (Night of Yalda),Shab-e Yalda (Noite de Yalda)

An ancient Iranian holiday, originally celebrated on the longest night of the year, that is, on the eve of the winter solstice.

Antigo feriado iraniano, originalmente celebrado na noite mais longa do ano, ou seja, na véspera do solstício de inverno.

O festival é celebrado no Irã, no Azerbaijão, no Tadjiquistão e pelos tadjiques do Uzbequistão (em Samarcanda e Bukhara) e no Afeganistão. A noite mais longa e escura do ano é uma época em que amigos e familiares se reúnem para comer, beber e recitar poesia (especialmente Hafiz) e Shahnameh até altas horas da noite. Eles comem frutas e nozes, romãs e melancias são especialmente importantes. A cor vermelha dessas frutas simboliza os tons carmesim do amanhecer e o brilho da vida.

No final do século XIII, o poeta persa Saadi escreveu em seu Bustan: “A verdadeira manhã não chegará até que termine a noite de Yalda”.

The festival is celebrated in Iran, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and by Tajiks of Uzbekistan (in Samarkand and Bukhara) and Afghanistan. The longest and darkest night of the year is a time when friends and family gather to eat, drink and recite poetry (especially Hafiz) and Shahnameh well into the night. They eat fruits and nuts, pomegranates and watermelons are especially important. The red color of these fruits symbolizes the crimson shades of dawn and the radiance of life.

At the end of the 13th century, the Persian poet Saadi wrote in his Bustan: “The real morning will not come until the night of Yalda ends.”
