On Christmas Eve, 1971, Juliane Koepcke and her Mom were flying in a small plane over the Peruvian Amazon jungle.

Suddenly, the plane was struck by lightning and broke apart!

Juliane, strapped into her seat, fell over 2 miles into the thick Peruvian Jungle.

Miraculously, she survived, suffering a broken collarbone, a large gash on her arm and a swollen-shut right eye.

Thankfully, Juliane’s father had taught her survival skills.

Through 11 harrowing days in the dense, harsh and dangerous jungle, Juliane followed a small river until, exhausted, she came in contact with some Peruvians loggers.

The kind loggers took Juliane, injured, exhausted but alive, to the nearest town, where she was airlifted to safety.

Sadly, Juliane’s mom didn’t make it.

The brave young woman, however, endured, following her mom’s footsteps and becoming a biologist.

Amazingly, Juliane is still alive today.
