Mickey Mouse Is Free!-A Munchausen’s Proxy Video-1928 Mickey Copyright Ends-The Social Misanthrope

Mickey Mouse premiered in 1928 in the animated short Steamboat Willie, beginning the legal protection of the character that represents the Walt Disney Company. Over the years, Disney has extended and extended that copyright protection with the help of lawyers and politicians. With Disney’s descent into Florida politics recently, they have lost the support that might have extended it again. This means that beginning January 1, 2024, Disney’s copyright for the Mickey Mouse design in Steamboat Willie will end and that design will be free to use as it lapses into the public domain. I discuss this recent capitulation by Disney and its import.
