Nextorch Saint Torch 30C
General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
• Nextorch was kind enough to send me a free sample of their Saint Torch 30C for me to review it in this video. It's the second brightest light at 15,000 lumens in their searchlight range - the Saint Torch 31 is 20,000 lumens and a lot larger too.
Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
• Same durable anodizing that you see on all Nextorch lights - matt black but still very grippy. The knurling on the battery tube helps as well. There are cut-outs on the head and an interesting 'lotus-style' design. Some areas of the head/tail allow you to attach a shoulder strap. The bezel has a nice silver accent, though it appears to be made of aluminum. The light is operated by two aluminum switches. One is slightly raised to differentiate by touch. There are 4 aux LEDs for the battery indicator.
• LEDs are unknown and I've never seen this kind of LED before - they have a white checkered lattice behind the dome. They're around the same size as the XHP70.3. Housed behind a triple SMO reflector. There are two built-in proximity sensors built into the reflector. Glass lens. Features active temperature regulation.
• The battery pack is rated at 45W and supports PD3.0/QC3.0 fast charging. It can fast charge external devices via USB-C and USB-A. You need to toggle the switch between LED and OFF - I like this feature, especially when transporting the light.
UI - modes
• Very simple UI. The top button is for momentary turbo (15000 lumens). Constant turbo is not available unless the button is held down. Double press quickly to lock/unlock.
• Bottom button - fully click to access high mode (10000 lumens), half press to cycle H-M-L-Eco
• SOS mode - press and hold the bottom button halfway for 3 seconds. While any sustained output is active, you can press and hold the top button to activate the turbo and release it to go back to the previous mode. Useful for bursts of light.
• Switch off proximity sensor - continue holding from the above SOS mode for 10 seconds. The 1st and 4th LEDs will light up. When you release the button, the proximity sensor will be deactivated. I find that you need to press the button slightly more than halfway and hold. If the press is too light, it won't register.
Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• CCT, CRI, Ceiling bounce test
• Beam is very floody but there's a large hotspot in the centre.
Considerations
• Large and heavy! 20cm long with an 8.4cm diameter head. It's something you keep in a bag or on your shoulder.
• Proprietary battery pack. This is common in these larger flashlights for safety reasons and to ensure adequate power supply.
• Conversative step down - probably could be pushed a bit further, but it also means that the electronics are not being stressed too much and you get better runtimes.
• Expensive! On the plus side, the build quality is excellent and you also get a 5-year warranty in case anything goes wrong.
Verdict
The Saint Torch 30C has some impressive output, along with upgraded features such as the proximity sensor and being able to fast charge external devices. There are lights out there that you can purchase for less with similar output specs, but many of them don't have the stringent quality control and build quality that you get with Nextorch. This is a serious searchlight that you could rely on in an emergency.
