Light bulbs designed to break?  The Phoebus Cartel emerged in the 1930s to shorten the lifespan of a light bulb.  Lamps from before 1920 can last up to 100 years.  Such as the Centennial lamp (the oldest sustainable light bulb in the world and consumes only 4W)
