Welcome to Visual News. In a recent development, affluent La Cañada Flintridge, located about 15 miles north of Los Angeles, is under scrutiny for denying an 80-unit multifamily housing development earlier this year, without the authority to do so, according to state officials.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta, on December 12, requested a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to uphold California’s housing laws and reverse the city’s denial. This comes in response to a lawsuit filed by the developer, Cedar Street Partners, in July against the city's action.
Pro affordable housing advocate and nonprofit, the California Housing Defense Fund, also filed a lawsuit in July, urging the court to overrule the city’s denial for violating state housing laws. Governor Gavin Newsom expressed disappointment in a joint press release, stating that La Cañada Flintridge is making excuses instead of contributing to affordable housing.
