In 2022, a movie called “The Woman King” was released and praised for showcasing strong black women. The movie was heralded as a great depiction of how black women have had their illustrious history suppressed by white people. While the story of the all women army is true, the problems arose when the real reason for this army came out. When the cast of the movie was asked about the inaccurate depiction of the army in the movie, main cast member, Viola Davis stated that it’s not about the truth of history but about changing the narrative of black people. Whatever that means.
