Christianity has created ceremonies and festivals to mark the birth of Jesus at a time where the ancient world celebrated the sun god. The birth of Jesus is twofold. First, to give Israel one last offering of repentance, through the king (messiah) they had asked for many hundreds of years earlier through Samuel. This Anointed One or king was not only the last offering but was tested to prove mankind could exist in the earth as the Father of lights had created him to be. To be the standard of existence for all mankind to emulate. The Second Man and the son of Jehovah.
