Come along with me as we take a railway journey through the Scottish Highlands. We travel on the iconic Strathspey Railway from Aviemore to Boat of Garten and then on to Broomhill. This is a steam locomotive hauled service that takes passengers on a scenic journey through the heart of the Cairngorms national park in the centre of Scotland.
Today we're being hauled by steam locomotive number 5025, a Black 5 class 4-6-0 engine. In 2023 the railway introduced an Observation Car coach and in this video we travel inside the unique beaver tail Coronation coach.
Join us on a memorable trip and discover what the Strathspey heritage steam railway is like!

The Strathspey Railway is a heritage railway located in Aviemore, Scotland. It is a popular tourist attraction that offers visitors the opportunity to experience a nostalgic journey through the stunning Scottish Highlands aboard vintage steam and diesel locomotives. Here is some information about the Strathspey Railway:

History: The Strathspey Railway was originally part of the Highland Railway network and was opened in 1863 as a standard gauge railway line. It served as an important transportation link for the region, primarily carrying passengers and goods, including timber from the nearby forests.

Preservation: The line was closed to regular passenger services in 1965 as part of the Beeching cuts, a series of railway closures in the UK. However, it was later preserved by a group of dedicated railway enthusiasts who formed the Strathspey Railway Preservation Society. They worked tirelessly to restore the line and bring it back to life as a heritage railway.

Route: The Strathspey Railway runs for approximately 10 miles (16 kilometers) from Aviemore to Broomhill, near Nethy Bridge. The route takes passengers through the beautiful Cairngorms National Park, offering picturesque views of the Scottish Highlands, forests, and wildlife.

Rolling Stock: The railway operates a collection of vintage steam and diesel locomotives, as well as historic carriages. Passengers can experience the charm of travel from a bygone era while enjoying the comfort of these well-preserved trains.

Services: The Strathspey Railway runs a variety of services throughout the year, including regular steam and diesel train journeys. Special events, such as dining experiences and themed excursions, are also organized on occasion. The railway often hosts events like Thomas the Tank Engine-themed days, which are particularly popular with families.

Broomhill Station: Broomhill Station, located at the end of the line, is a highlight of the Strathspey Railway experience. It is a meticulously restored station that retains its historic charm. Visitors can explore the station and its surroundings, take photographs, and enjoy refreshments at the station cafe.

Educational and Preservation Efforts: In addition to providing an enjoyable tourist attraction, the Strathspey Railway is committed to preserving and promoting railway history. It offers educational programs and opportunities for volunteers to get involved in the maintenance and operation of the railway.

Visitor Experience: Riding the Strathspey Railway offers a unique opportunity to step back in time and appreciate the scenic beauty of the Scottish Highlands from a different perspective. It is a popular destination for tourists and railway enthusiasts alike.
