PLO: TO SOLVE MIGRATION CRISIS, MAKE AFRICA A FACTORY

Africa loses millions of its best minds and strongest talents every year. All this, just for emigrated Africans to be treated as second-class citizens in Europe and around the world. Pan-Africanist PLO Lumumba recently spoke to African Stream and he has a proposal to fix this: Turn Africa into a factory.

For centuries, the continent has been relegated to the position of primary producer. With its wealth of gold, iron, timber, uranium, cobalt and countless other resources, the continent has been a battleground for Western interests, resulting in its colonisation and current neocolonisation. However, employing the labour and intellect of Africa’s youth should see the continent move higher on the supply chain across multiple sectors and, in effect, halt the migration crisis, which is largely driven by economic considerations.

Lumumba further states no one would reasonably want to be uprooted from a continent as wealthy as this. But, to retain her youth, Africa should provide an avenue to tap into one of her greatest resources. Lumumba warns the journey won’t be straightforward, as regions like Europe that have benefited from Africa’s status quo won’t be too happy with a shift.
