Yelets

Lipetsk region. Yelets is one of the oldest cities in the Black Earth region

It appeared as a fortress on the banks of the Bystraya Sosna River in 1146. Spruce in Russia was called spruce or oak forest. One of the most mysterious events occurred in 1395, when Yelets was ravaged by the troops of Khan Tamerlane. Surprisingly, the famous conqueror did not go further, but turned his troops back. According to legend, the founder of the Timurid Empire dreamed of a huge army of Russian saints who defeated his army.

There is a special atmosphere of tranquility and a frozen past in this city. Yelets has preserved rich spiritual and cultural traditions; many ancient architectural monuments have survived to the present day. Thanks to the efforts of local historian Vladimir Zausailov, modern names are now duplicated by historical ones in the center of Yelets. The city is slowly developing as a center of attraction for travel enthusiasts. A special economic zone of tourist and recreational type has been created here.
