On Monday, efforts to remove a Confederate memorial from Arlington National Cemetery in northern Virginia faced a setback as a court order temporarily blocked its removal.

The move represents a setback in the broader initiative to eliminate symbols commemorating the Confederacy from military-related facilities.

A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order on Monday, preventing the removal of a memorial dedicated to Confederate soldiers at the nation’s preeminent military cemetery.

Defend Arlington, associated with a group named Save Southern Heritage Florida, filed a lawsuit on Sunday in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia, seeking the restraining order.

A hearing on the matter is scheduled for Wednesday, The Guardian reported.
