Pope says priests can bless same-sex unions

Pope Francis has officially sanctioned the blessing of same-sex couples, marking a significant shift in Vatican policy.

A newly released document from the Vatican’s doctrine office, disclosed on Monday, provides further details on this departure from tradition.

It emphasizes that individuals seeking God’s love and mercy should not be subjected to “an exhaustive moral analysis” to receive these blessings.

This document builds upon a letter sent by Pope Francis to two conservative cardinals in October, where he initially suggested that such blessings could be considered under certain conditions, as long as they didn’t conflate with the sacrament of marriage.

The latest document reiterates this condition and provides additional clarification. It underscores that marriage remains a lifelong sacrament between a man and a woman, the Associated Press reported.
