Today we take a look at an Intrinsically Safe flashlight, the Streamlight Dualie 3AA.

Intrinsically Safe items are products/equipment used in hazardous and/or explosive areas. Hazardous/ explosive areas are places like chemical refineries, manufacturing plants, agricultural milling, mining, fuel transportation, etc.

So intrinsically safe items are typically made of a non-conductive material, sealed to keep explosive dust, gases and liquids out of it, shock proof, and low temperature output.

The Streamlight Dualie 3AA has a poly-carbonate lens and body. Large rubberized buttons for use with gloves, and added grip in wet environments.
The battery pack on the inside is indexed to prevent the incorrect orientation, and it is offset from the housing by plastic, and a rubber isolator on the tail end. The low lumen rating is low wattage, meaning low temps produced.

Spot - 140 lumens, 7300 candela peak beam intensity, 171 meter beam distance, runs 18 hours
Flood – 140 lumens, 80 candela peak beam intensity,18 meter beam distance, runs 18 hours
If you use both lights together, run time will be 9 hours.

Weight: 6.8 oz. (193 grams) with AA alkaline batteries, 5.9 oz. (167 grams) with AA lithium batteries

*Now to be warned, if you read the negative Amazon reviews, you will see comments that this flashlight lacks a metal housing, and a USB charge port. Both the metal casing and a USB charge port would not make this flashlight intrinsically safe, as metal conducts electricity, and exposed charge ports can also ignition is unsafe environments. The people that made these comments do not understand what makes a product intrinsically safe, so just ignore those. For this reason alone is why I went through the the time to look up the specifications, to give you the best information I can about this light. *
