Gorgeous Israeli actress Haya Harareet, have been in acting only for a few years but in that short time, she made a lasting impression with her impeccable acting skill and her appealing appearance. One of her major film roles was in the 1959 Hollywood-made film Ben-Hur where she played the role of Esther.
She was born on 20 September 1931 in Haifa, the third-largest city in present Israel what was then British Mandatory of Palestine. She was the second of three children.
Harareet took her entry into the world of acting in a 1955 Israeli romantic war film "Giv'a 24 Eina Ona“, which was released nationally under the translation "Hill 24 Does Not Answer". There she played the role of Miriam Miszharahi. The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or, at the 1955 Cannes Film Festival.
In 1956 she played opposite Virna Lisi in the Italian drama film La donna del giorno, The Woman of the Day in English, released in the US as The Doll That Took the Town.
Her major role as Esther in William Wyler's Ben-Hur in 1959 brought her to the frontline of the world of international cinema. Ben Hur won eleven Academy Awards, that included Best Actor, in a Leading Role by Charlton Heston, and Best Actor, in a Supporting Role by Hugh Griffith, but unfortunately Harareet didn’t find herself in this list though.
The only nomination she got was in 1960 Nominee Golden Laurel Top Female New Personality, where she was ranked 6th.
She was the co-writer of the screenplay for the BAFTA-nominated 1967 drama "Our Mother's House”.
