Credible's Classic Matches - Wales v South Africa (1999) THE FIRST MATCH AT THE MILLENNIUM STADIUM

Saturday 26th June 1999 was a very special day for Welsh Rugby with the opening of the new Millennium Stadium.

Still unfinished, and resembling more of a construction site than a world class stadium, it was nevertheless a great day and occasion for Wales going up against the then champions of the world at their new home, built on the site of their old home.

Wales were on the up after a nightmare year in 1998, being thrashed by the Boks in South Africa 98-13, but could they get revenge almost a year to the day since that crushing defeat?

Wales expected, the players were ready, the stadium was getting there and the fourth Rugby World Cup loomed large... what would happen?
