Tiger's 'Vengeance'

In the winter of 1997 in Russia, Vladimir Markov, a poacher, encountered an unexpected and grim fate after shooting and injuring a tiger and pilfering part of its recent kill. Following the confrontation, the wounded tiger tracked Markov to his cabin, exhibiting a surprising and unprecedented behavior.

Reports indicate that the injured tiger patiently waited near Markov's cabin for a period ranging from 12 to 48 hours. During this time, the big cat systematically destroyed items carrying Markov's scent. The motive behind the tiger's actions remains open to speculation, but it is evident that the circumstances were triggered by human intervention.

Upon Markov's return, the tiger swiftly took its revenge, killing him and dragging his body into the nearby bushes before consuming him. The peculiar nature of this incident led John Vaillant, an American-Canadian writer and journalist, to delve into the perspectives of long-time residents in the Russian East. Locals, who had lived in the region for generations, conveyed that such an occurrence was unprecedented in their living memory, emphasizing that tigers hunting humans were not a common phenomenon.

Vaillant asserted that the tiger's response, although unusual, could be deemed "logical" and "understandable" within the context of the human-induced circumstances. It's worth noting that had the tiger not been subjected to the initial gunshot, this macabre tale might never have unfolded.
