Have you ever noticed that though you are always being satisfied by Jesus Christ, it is not long after you feel a deep longing again for Him? I have noticed it my whole life. There is an ever deepening happening in the soul for want of Christ more and more.

There is a divine discontentment, a divine unsatisfaction that yearns for more of His richness and fulness of communion with Him that can never fill us up. So in the spiritual life, unsatisfaction is the token of health. "Blessed are the unsatisfied."

When Jesus said in Matthew 5:6, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." I seem to think that it is not a now-and-then filling up. But only the start of the endless life in our eternal souls.

It is not a human hunger, it is a divine hunger meant for the born again life. I think that this hunger and thirst will go on for all eternity. I really do. And I actually hope so. I hope to always be even hungrier and thirstier there than here after I see Him in all His great glory.

After I hear Him singing and talking to us. When I view Him going forth like flashes of lightning through heavenly realms.

"The best thing in us is never what we are, what we have already reached, but the longing for that which is yet higher and better." ~ A.B. Simpson
