Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer Rock Fontaine sheds light on the impact of Canada’s COVID policies on funeral homes and the handling of deaths by medical examiners. “A death prior to COVID, if the body was under investigation by the medical examiner’s office they would order an autopsy to be done. When an autopsy was to be done, we would get the autopsy done anywhere from three days to five days,” Fontaine explains. “Now when it comes to getting an autopsy, the autopsies are taking as much as two weeks and we’ve never seen that.”
