So a few weeks ago when the fall was really falling here in New York ; a friend & I looked at each other after watching one of our favorite shows & decided to get out of the city for the day & explore #westchestercounty to experience the essence of #thegildedage live for some design inspiration & also see the glamor of the #victorianera up & close. So we arrived at the our first set location which is Reid Hall aka "Reid Castle" which is on the Manhattanville College campus in Purchase, NY. In all it's grandeur perched up on a hill, the castle sits as it would have in the 1890's when it was constructed as one of the jewels of the area. According to the production team it "served as office and art gallery interiors for the show ". But here's a quick tour of the grounds. Finally we made it inside of Reid Castle and it is exactly what Victorian architectural dreams are made of. We have marble staircases, coffer ceilings, herringbone floors and so much more. It makes one think would Mrs.Russell have approved
Our next stop was the Jacob Purdy House located in White Plains. The 1720 farmhouse, which Executive Producer David Crockett called a "diamond in the rough," as it stood in for the Tuskegee classroom where Marion secretly teaches. As soon as we stepped into the park, you can't help but feel as if you've stepped back in time. Couldn't see the inside of the house but I did my best to give a 360 view. Next stop on the tour we headed up to the Pace University campus in Pleasantville, NY. Various buildings on the campus "served as a restaurant interior and provided space for base camp" according to the production team. Although we couldn't view inside as they now serve as the University's offices and study halls, you can see the grandeur they once had. On the last leg of the tour right after seeing a bear just chilling in someone's driveway outside of Pace, we headed down to Tarrytown to see the Lyndhurst Mansion. According to the show Lyndhurst was privileged to be a filming location since they rarely allow cameras inside. Unfortunately it was closed the day we went and so was it's neighbor the Belvedere Estate so we didn't get any inside pics or really out. Last stop was in Yonkers along Warburton Avenue where many of the Victorian homes along many with all their original features. Hope you enjoyed my little set tour, see you next time !
