Dr. Sean McFate is a foreign policy expert, author and novelist. He is a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, a Washington DC think tank, and a Professor of Strategy at the National Defense University and Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. Additionally, he serves as an Advisor to Oxford University’s Centre for Technology and Global Affairs. Dr. McFate began his career in the US Army and transitioned into a private military contractor and paramilitary.
Among his many experiences, he dealt with African warlords, raised armies for U.S. interest, rode with armed groups in the Sahara, conducted strategic reconnaissance for the extractive industry, transacted arms deals in Eastern Europe, and helped prevent an impending genocide in the Rwanda region.
In this episode, Dr. McFate discusses where he thinks global conflict is heading and why the United States cannot stop "preparing for the last war". In his book "The New Rules of War", Dr. McFate argues that waging conventional war the way the United States does is a fatal mistake. We discuss how the US can compete with China, what it must do to re-shape its global image to those who are growing weary of the paradigm, and among a plethora of other things...what would happen if corporate giants like Amazon began hiring private military contractors to do their corporate bidding against business rivals? Is a world where Jeff Bezos hires former Delta Force members to destroy Tesla business interests at hand?
If, like us, you have more questions than answers about the future of global conflict, wonder what the US must do to avoid ruin, and want to hear some ideas we guarantee you've never heard before, this episode is definitely for you.
