Moses: The Journey from Slavery to Salvation 2
The Birth of Moses (Exodus 2:1-10)
The story begins when the Pharaoh of Egypt orders all male Hebrew babies to be killed. Moses' mother, Jochebed, hides him in a reed basket and places him in the waters of the Nile River. The pharaoh's daughter finds the baby, falls in love with him and adopts him as her own son. Moses grows up in the Pharaoh's house, but later discovers his Hebrew roots.
The Call of Moses (Exodus 3:1-22)
When Moses reaches adulthood, he witnesses the oppression of the Israelites in Egypt. One day, while tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, he sees a burning bush that cannot be consumed. God speaks to Moses through the bush and calls him to lead the Israelites to freedom.
The Plagues of Egypt (Exodus 7-11)
Moses confronts Pharaoh and demands the release of the Israelites. However, the pharaoh repeatedly refuses. God sends a series of plagues upon Egypt, including the turning of water into blood, infestation of frogs, lice, flies, disease in livestock, ulcers, hail, locusts, darkness, and the death of the firstborn.
The Passover and Departure (Exodus 12-14)
Before the last plague, the death of the firstborn, God instructs the Israelites to sacrifice a lamb and mark the doors of their homes with its blood. This results in the Israelites being freed as the angel of death passes over their homes. The Israelites leave Egypt during the night, led by Moses.
The Red Sea (Exodus 14)
Pharaoh changes his mind and pursues the Israelites. They find themselves trapped between the Egyptian army and the Red Sea. God divides the waters of the sea, allowing the Israelites to cross on foot, but closes the waters over the Egyptian army when they try to follow them.
The Journey through the Desert (Exodus 15-18)
The Israelites begin their journey through the desert towards the Promised Land. Moses guides the people but faces challenges, including a lack of water and food. God provides manna and quails to feed the people.
The Ten Commandments (Exodus 19-20)
Moses climbs Mount Sinai, where God gives him the Ten Commandments, a series of moral and ethical laws that the Israelites must follow. These include worshiping God exclusively, honoring parents, not killing, not stealing, among others.
