Last time I built this same toy I used 2x6 slabs for the layers. So I figured I’d try something new and use plywood! I was pleased with the result. Also it was much less time consuming. Beware though, plywood SPLINTERS a lot! On small pieces be sure to scribe the pencil line with a sharp knife; you’ll thank me later.

The axels were made of 3/16” threaded rod. Be sure to GRIND the ends because the cut remains sharp. Also make sure to use LOCK NUTS on the end. Take note on how I ground a groove in the end for a screwdriver to go in. This way when twisting the opposite nut on, this one doesn’t tighten. This would happen if you used a socket on both sides.

For the tow hook, I molded it out of OVEN BAKE CLAY. You can buy this at Walmart with a brand like “Sculpy”.
