Our immediate reaction is twofold, says Thomas Jensen, CEO at Milestone Systems.

- First of all, it is clear that the devil is in the detail, and there are many details that are not in place yet. Having said that, we are overall very happy with the agreement.
The negotiations in the EU have been called marathon negotiations, and the point of contention has particularly been biometric surveillance - also called facial recognition.
.
Various governments in the union have, for example, wanted exceptions for the police and national security when it came to surveillance and facial recognition.
.
Wishes that the EU has listened to, and it is, among other things, of great importance to Milestone Systems, which works with video surveillance and facial recognition for authorities.

- We welcome the fact that a pragmatic solution has been found which ensures that our rescue services and emergency services are able to serve the citizens with the help of artificial intelligence, says Thomas Jensen to TV 2.

He emphasizes, however, that although he is happy with that particular part of the agreement, there may still be details hidden in the new EU agreement that could have a negative impact.

- My big concern is that we as companies can end up in a limbo with long waiting times. It can put us in a very difficult situation, he says.

Are you nervous about ending up in a legal gray area?

- We absolutely can. There are also some things that are hugely crucial. Firstly, the implementation must be both fast and pragmatic.

- We also think it is very important that there should be requirements for simple communication. Citizens and companies must know what is expected of us, says Thomas Jensen.

Can go beyond competitiveness
However, the EU agreement still lands in a good place at home, because several Danish companies that work with artificial intelligence have long demanded regulations.

This is what Minister for Digitalization Marie Bjerre (V) says, who is also happy about the new legislation in this area:

- Therefore, I hope that the rules will mean that we will see a further boost in investment in artificial intelligence, says the minister
