Senator says US’ failure to defend Ukraine will increase threat of nuclear weapons

Countries under the U.S. nuclear umbrella are closely watching the U.S. response to Russia’s nuclear threats against Ukraine.
This was stated by U.S. Senator Jim Risch. If the U.S. does not support Ukraine in the context of Russia's threats to use nuclear weapons, Risch explained, "I worry about what our enemies will think. But I worry much more about what our allies will think."
Therefore, the reaction of other countries, especially allies, to the potential failure of the United States to protect Ukraine from nuclear blackmail or a Russian strike could completely change the vision of nuclear weapons on a global scale.
"So they will say, we can't count on the United States, so we have to have nuclear weapons. And I do believe that a failure to honor the commitments in Ukraine would trigger the largest nuclear arms race on the planet that we have ever seen," Risch said.
The senator said aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan is important to move forward and 'we want to get it done,' but 'we need to first and foremost be concerned on our southern border.'
