The Miley Tunnel
At 862 yards the Miley Tunnel in Preston, Lancashire falls just short of half a mile long. Built as part of The Preston And Longridge railway branch line the tunnel first opened in 1840, by 1930 the line had closed for passenger use due to other more favourable forms of transport but continued to move freight until the line finally closed to all trains in 1980. The victorian brick arch tunnel is also said to be haunted by the souls of children who died during construction and also that of a young girl that fell from a moving train carriage who's spirit is spotted patrolling the tunnel and is known as the grey lady.
