Making a camel comfy at Hawk Creek
Hawk Creek Wildlife Center has always been a place where wild birds and other small creatures have found safe haven. So a fifteen hundred pound camel is an unusual house guest. Tanya Lowe, Education Director says that the original owner of Baboo had to surrender him, and so Hawk Creek became his new home. He's about eight feet tall, and has had an adjustment period here. Tanya says "when he first got here he would pace and rock back and forth." But then Baboo made friends with a goat and a donkey and now he's mellowed out. "now he's happy and we don't see that rocking behavior anymore." Baboo has been a large and expensive endeavor. He has bad ankles and will need extensive medical care in the years to come. Hawk Creek is offering "adoption" opportunities to help defray the costs. Tanya says the "Adoption Totes" make a great gift idea and will include a personal gift from Baboo. You can find all the information at their website.
