Las Vegas police: 3 dead, 1 injured after Wednesday shooting at UNLV

A source close to the investigation says that the suspect is believed to be a 67-year-old college professor

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says three people were killed and an additional person is in critical condition after a shooting Wednesday at UNLV.

The suspect in the incident, according to Las Vegas police, is also deceased.

UNLV first reported the incident in a post on X at about 11:53 a.m., saying, “University Police responding to report of shots fire in BEH evacuate to a safe area, RUN-HIDE-FIGHT.”

In a second post at 11:59 a.m., the school updated that University Police were “responding to a confirmed active shooter situation in BEH. This is not a test.”

In a social media post, UNLV announced that its campus and all other NSHE institutions in southern Nevada are now closed for the remainder of the day.

At about 1:34 p.m., LVMPD Sheriff Kevin McMahill said there “was no further threat.” Authorities advised that there were “a number of victims” who had been transported to area hospitals.

Just before 2 p.m., LVMPD posted on X, “The suspect is deceased. Right now, we know there are 3 victims, but unknown extent of the injuries. That number could change. We will update you when we know more.”

The department updated at 3:41 p.m. that investigators had confirmed there were three deceased victims and an additional victim in critical condition at a local hospital.
