Former prime minister Boris Johnson apologises to families of Covid victims, as he began giving evidence at a UK public inquiry into his government's handling of the pandemic. "I am deeply sorry for the pain and the loss and the suffering of those victims and their families," he says at the start of two days in the witness box. Johnson, who has faced a barrage of criticism from his former aides for his indecisiveness and a lack of scientific understanding during the pandemic, is expected to admit that he "unquestionably made mistakes" during two days at the inquiry London
