YouTuber jailed after deliberately crashing plane for views

Just when you start to think humanity might have a chance, along comes a YouTuber to prove you wrong. Today’s click-hungry brainlet comes in the form of 30-year-old Trevor Jacob, who decided that crashing an entire plane was worth a couple of thumbs up from strangers on the internet.

Back in 2021, Jacob crashed a small aircraft into a California hillside after throwing himself from the plane. Cameras mounted on the aircraft captured the crash, while Jacob parachuted to the ground. The resulting video, the catchily-titled ‘I Crashed My Airplane,’ drew millions of views.

Suspicions were raised when Jacob began lying to authorities about the details of the crash, even cutting up the wreckage himself to get rid of it, leading him to be accused of – and ultimately admit – crashing on purpose for clout and a possible sponsorship deal.

Jacob was charged with destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation, and sentenced to 6 months in federal prison. We suspect his next staged video, ‘I got shivved,’ will not do as well.
