Cherry Acerola - This small fruit delivers enormous strength to the body.
Known scientifically as Malpighia emarginata, it is a fruit native to Central America, South America and the Caribbean. It is also known as the Antillean cherry, Barbados cherry or simply acerola.
The acerola is native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, including countries such as Brazil, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Cuba.
Currently, it is cultivated in different parts of the world with tropical climates.
Acerola is a fruit rich in vitamin C, a nutrient with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that fights free radicals, helping to prevent the onset of diseases such as premature aging, cancer and blood clots. Furthermore, acerolas also contain fiber to help increase digestion time, control hunger throughout the day and are low in calories, which makes them an interesting option to include in a weight loss diet. The acerola has a thin, red skin, yellowish pulp and a slightly sour flavor, and can be consumed raw or used in recipes such as juices, cakes, jellies and mousses. Acerola leaves can also be used to make tea.
