scientific summary about Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT)
12
PWHT stands for Post Weld Heat Treatment .
It is a controlled process that involves reheating a welded material to a temperature below its lower critical transformation temperature ,
holding it at that temperature for a specified amount of time, and then cooling it to room temperature.
The purpose of PWHT is to relieve internal stresses in the weld and surrounding heat-affected zone, which can cause distortion or even cracking.
Additionally, PWHT can improve the material's mechanical and chemical properties by enhancing ductility, reducing residual stress,
and improving the material's ability to withstand corrosive environments.
PWHT is commonly used in industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, and power generation.
