Everyday Reality for Palestinians - Checkpoints.

Every morning, before dawn, tens of thousands of Palestinian workers pass Israeli army checkpoints on their way to their workplaces in Israeli and Palestinian towns across the Green Line.

Between four and six in the morning, thousands of people gather in front of checkpoints in spaces that look like cages. Many arrive more than an hour before the point opens, at three in the morning or earlier, in order to take a place in line and get to work on time.

The crossings are overcrowded and insufficiently sanitary equipped whereas the crossing conditions are humiliating. Some Palestinian workers died due to being confined in an extremely narrow space.

Due to the limited validity of Israeli permits, they must return home during the day. In order to avoid the harsh conditions at the checkpoints, some decide to take a risk and spend the night at their workplaces.

Journalist Jeremy Loffredo: "I was just in the West Bank for 3 weeks. When traveling with a Palestinian it took 3 hours to get somewhere that took only 20 minutes when traveling with an Israeli citizen...".
