Mike Randall's 1987 interview with John Candy

The movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" starring John Candy and Steve Martin has become a Thanksgiving Holiday Classic. Portions of that film were shot in Western New York. The driving scenes in particular were filmed on the new and yet unopened stretch of Route 219 between Hamburg and Springville. John Candy was staying at a downtown hotel during the filming and Mike Randall was able to interview the star. There was just one catch, Mike had to meet Candy at the hotel's hair salon. The film is thirty years old, but was considered then and even today as some of the best work of director/writer John Hughes and the actors Candy and Martin.
